Spicy Snack Chaos: 14 Kids Hospitalized After Eating "Adult Only” Snacks
In a bizarre incident, 14 students at Tokyo's Rokugo Koka High School were
rushed to the hospital after consuming "R18 curry chips" that were meant for
adults only. The spicy snack, manufactured by Isoyama Corp, is made with the
infamous ghost pepper, also known as bhut jolokia, which is 170 times hotter
than Tabasco sauce.

The Incident
A student brought the crisps to school "just
for fun" and shared them with 33 classmates, resulting in 13 girls and one boy
suffering from nausea, stomach pain, and mouth pain. One student was even taken
away in a wheelchair. The company has since expressed their concern and wished
for the swift recovery of those affected.
Warnings Ignored
Despite clear
warnings on the company's website, the students consumed the snack, which is
intended for over 18s only. The website explicitly states that under 18s are
forbidden from eating the snack, which can cause pain, diarrhea, and other
health issues.
The Snack's Reputation
Isoyama Corp's curry crisps have been
available since 2013 and are made with the ghost pepper, one of the spiciest
chilli peppers in the world. The company warns that even veteran spice-lovers
should proceed with caution and not consume the snack alone.
A Lesson Learned
This incident serves as a reminder to respect food warnings and age
restrictions. The students' reckless behavior led to unnecessary harm, and it's
crucial to prioritize health and safety.
