Fame's Life and Disappearance
Fame was a shy and sweet girl who loved stuffed animals and music. She had a close friendship with Bobbie Proto, who remembered her as a caring and gentle soul. However, Fame's life took a difficult turn when she began to struggle with behavioral issues and was sent to a girl's home in Elkins. Upon her return, she was introduced to Rev. James Saunders, who attempted to mentor her.
On the evening of July 10, Fame was at the arcade with friends when she decided to stay behind. Her friends left, and she was never seen alive again. Her aunt reported her missing, and a search ensued. Three months later, hunters discovered Fame's body in Barrackville.
Investigation and Leads
The Marion County Sheriff's Office has led the investigation, following numerous leads and tips over the years. In 1992, police connected Fame's case to that of Kimmie Eddy, a 1989 runaway whose remains were found in Mannington. However, no arrests have been made in connection with either case.
In 2020, Bobbie Proto and Sunshine Hornick, Fame's sister, reignited efforts to solve the case. They met with investigators and began researching, leading to the placement of a billboard in Fairmont with Fame's picture and a tip number.
